As an uncle to a very talented, ten-year, female basketball player, I couldn’t agree more. For girls (I can say girls when referring to fifth graders), shooting at a ten-foot rim promotes bad fundamentals and discourages outside shots because the girls at that age can’t get it to the rim. Even my niece, who is a very good shooter, has bad form on her shots because she has to compensate in order to get enough power to launch the ball towards the rim.
Geno Auriemma hasn’t always been my favorite basketball mind but he knows what he is talking about when it relates to women’s basketball. If Geno says lower the rims, lower the rims.
